Shifra Gassner
From East Village Community School
Bio by Brittany Muñoz, 5th grade
Shifra Gassner was born in Chicago in a suburb called Highland Park. When Shifra was little, she wanted to be a scientist. When she is not at school, she likes to draw at a drawing studio. She also goes to see plays. Shifra went to college at University of Michigan and she studied Art History and Writing. Shifra went back to school in San Francisco and that is where she studied to be a teacher.
Before Shifra came to EVCS she was a teacher in two other schools in Harlem. Shifra wanted to work in EVCS because she loves doing project work and she loves that there are a lot of different kinds of kids and families in EVCS. Shifra thinks it is really important to learn about each child and try to find out what they are good at. The hardest part of Shifra’s job is keeping her room clean and organized. Shifra loves the stories that the kids in her class tell and the things they write and when the kids are being kind to each other. Shifra hopes that all of her kids in her classroom find something they love to do.
